Pongal festival was celebrated in a unique way as ‘Harmony Pongal’ recently in Pudukottai organised by the Pudukottai district Tiruvarul Peravai, in association with the Pudukottai District Varthaga Kazhagam and Rotary Club of Pudukottai.
Pudukottai Collector A. Suganthi and Superintendent of Police P. Moorthy who were the Chief Guests at the function, presented ‘Manidaneya Maanbaalar’ awards to Tirukkural Kazhagam President P. Ramiah, Pudukottai district Varthaga Kazhagam Secretary S. Charles Raja and Annai Teresa Arulaga Charitable Trust president Liyaqat Ali.
The Collector also distributed Pongal pots and rice, jaggery, etc required for preparing the Pongal to 20 farmers at the function. She stressed the need for maintaining communal harmony and national integration.

Ramiah, Varalattru Peravai President J. Raja Mohamed and others spoke about the importance of Pongal festival and stressed the need for communal harmony.

Mohamed Nazer, president of Rotary Club of Pudukottai mentioned that the Pongal, the great festival of the Tamils, is also being celebrated as Tamil New Year in Tamil Nadu.
