A civic grievances redressal camp, meant for residents in ward 1, 2 and 3 in Srirangam, drew a lukewarm response from the locals on Wednesday.

The grievances meeting, organised by the Tiruchirapalli Corporation, attracted just about 35 petitions. Mayor A. Jaya, Corporation Commissioner V.P. Thandapani and other Corporation officials had turned up in strength at the Devi Thirumana Mahal at Gandhi Road in Srirangam on Wednesday morning.

The camp was organised at short notice and the Corporation had issued a press release about the event only on Tuesday.

Apart from lack of adequate publicity, the slight showers also seemed to have acted as a damper.

A Corporation press release issued later in the day said immediate action was taken with respect to 17 of the 35 petitions received during the camp.

Follow up action will be initiated on the rest of the petitions after inspections by the officials, the release said.

A few petitioners who sought distribution of free tree saplings were provided the same on the spot.

Residents who require saplings for being planted at their homes can approach the Corporation officials, Mr. Thandapani said.

Corporation officials said that similar camps will be organised periodically with adequate public notice in advance henceforth.
