Tiruchi Corporation Mayor A. Jaya on Wednesday inspected the progress of works at Green Park at Panjapur.
Accompanied by Corporation Commissioner N. S. Prema and City Engineer Nagesh, she went around the 22.50 acre park, which is yet to take a full shape.
She discussed with the officials on the progress of various components of the park.
Ms. Prema said that the Corporation had raised 1,432 trees under the Urban Social Forest scheme on the 3.5 acres of the park. The trees have grown well and instructions were given to the officials to pay special attention to nurture them.
She said forming of footpath, link roads, construction of entrance gate, growing of medicinal plants, formation of sand bund and cycle track had been completed. Similarly, replicas of ‘world wonders’ had also been installed. Two high mast lamps at a cost of Rs.13.60 lakh were established to illuminate the park. Ms. Prema said steps would be taken to expedite the remaining works. The residents of Tiruchi should come forward to take part in the Green Park initiatives, she added.
