Management students from leading B-schools demonstrated their sharp wit, business acumen, and did some quick thinking to seal the top slots in various competitions at Arcturus'14 held in Tiruchi on Saturday and Sunday.

This is the second edition of the annual management fest of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Tiruchirapalli organised entirely by the students of the institute. Parvesh Kumar, Manager, State Bank of India, and K.V.Nithyananda, Professor, Student Affairs, IIM-T, inaugurated the fest on February 8. The event received 2,100 registrations from B-Schools across India. The two-day fest featured a range of contests aimed at providing an opportunity for students to compete with their peers in different fields of management: marketing, finance, human resources, consulting, IT, and operations. The events, Fusionen Meister, Brand WarZ, SectoRate, Crack the Chaos, Consulting Czars, Seek HR, Market Place, Re-AdVenture, I-Stimulate, Ops-Wise and Long Bets, tested the budding managers’ ingenuity, entrepreneurial skills, and business insight. While all the events had an online round and on-the-spot round, four events were exclusively online.

The events tested their managerial skills in investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, and valuation (using quiz and case studies), knowledge of finance and economics, innovative product or service ideas with complete business plan, operations management, organisational behaviour, human resources, and industrial relations.

Two guest speakers – Mr.Mahalingam, Director, TSM Group of companies, and Shyam Vembar, Vice President, Agri-Business, Mahindra and Mahindra – relived their lives after MBA at ‘The Road Ahead’. Both are alumni of NIT-Tiruchi and IIM-Calcutta. The B-School festival concluded with a rock show and a stand-up comedy performance by Sapan Verma of The East India Comedy.

S.N.Dhanabal and A.Faridh Khan from Bharathidasan Institute of Management secured first prize in ‘Crack the Chaos.’ While Ajinkya Pachghare and Pratibha Pal from IIM-Kozhikode stood first in ‘Sectorate’, Gitu AjayKumar and Ashwanth Rajeev from IIM-Tiruchirapalli bagged the second prize. Srijan Sinha and Rudra Prasad Banerjee from Institute for Financial Management and Research, and Mohit Gupta, Apoorva Sharma and Gaurav Bhardwaj from IIM-Shillong secured first and second places respectively in ‘Fusionen meister’. N.S. Aravind and K.Venkatraman of Great Lakes Institute of Management emerged winners in ‘iSimulate.’
