A computer instructor of a Government Higher Secondary School at Padalur was placed under suspension on Thursday for having allegedly beaten students with a stick.

As the incident caused resentment among parents, the teacher was later placed under suspension by the Education Department authorities.

The teacher - Manisekaran - had conducted a test on Thursday for the students and some of them were reportedly talking.

This apparently enraged the computer instructor who allegedly lashed them using a stick.

On receipt of information, parents besieged the school demanding action against the teacher. The police immediately alerted the Chief Educational Officer who went to the school and conducted an inquiry.

Following assurance that action would be initiated against the teacher, the parents dispersed from the spot.

Subsequently, the Chief Educational Officer issued an order placing Manisekaran under suspension, said official sources. The instructor had joined the school only a few years ago.
