Although the number of government schools that secured centum pass percentage is less in Karur district, most government schools have done reasonably well in the recently held Plus Two examinations.

All students of the Government Higher Secondary School at Ranganathampettai (44) and the Government Higher Secondary School at Thumbivadi (22) have finished the higher secondary school in flying colours. However, both of them could not produce district rank- holders. The Government Higher Secondary School at Lalapettai took the honours by producing two district-level rank-holders among the government school category. K. Pavithra and Manimekalai emerged as top scorers with 1,155 and 1,144 marks out of 1,200 respectively. The third rank went to Isaiveni of the Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School at Pugalur.

Analysis of the district-wise pass list shows that although the government schools have not fared well when compared to private and aided schools, they have shown better performance in 2013-14 academic year. The overall pass percent in government schools is 87.38. Out of about 58 government higher secondary schools, just one school has got less than 70 per cent pass. Just 12 out of 21 students, who appeared for the examinations, of the Government Higher Secondary School at Andipattikottai, have managed to secure pass mark. It works out to 57.14 per cent.

As many as four schools have registered between 70 and above and below 80, which are rated as good. All others have shown remarkable performance. In the highest student intake category, the Government HSS at Rachandarthirumalai has made its mark. Out of 238 students, 226 candidates have scored centum.

The success rate works out to 94.96 per cent. The Government Girls HSS at Kulithalai has done well by producing 373 victorious students out of 415, which works out to 89.88 per cent.

Collector S. Jayandhi said the systematic and concerted steps had yielded better results this year.

T. Thiruvalarselvi, Chief Educational Officer, said a new and innovative approach would be adopted to motivate students from the beginning of the next academic year itself.
