Government implements schemes beyond poll manifesto: Minister

The State government has not only fulfilled all the poll promises, but also has implemented welfare programmes which were not mentioned in the election manifesto, said Poongothai Aladi Aruna, Minister for Information Technology. Mrs. Poongothai was speaking at a function here on Wednesday to distribute identity cards to the beneficiaries of the housing scheme.

The Minister said about 8,500 concrete houses would be constructed in the district in the first phase. A total of 44,204 houses would come up at Rs.331crore over six years. The Minister handed over identity cards to 6,575 beneficiaries of 36 village panchayats.

T. K. Ponnusamy, Collector, presided over the meeting. S. S. Sivasankar and K. Rajendran, both MLAs; R. Pichai, District Revenue Officer; J. Bella, Project Officer, DRDA; and presidents of village panchayats participated.

Sirakazhi

S. N. M. Ubayathullah, Minister for Commercial Taxes, began the distribution of identity cards to the beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme, here on Wednesday. The distribution process would continue up to December 18 covering 11 blocks.

Thirty seven Panchayats with 10,766 beneficiaries were covered in Sirkazhi on Wednesday. The distribution of IDs and conditional eligibility IDS would continue on specified dates at Mayiladuthurai, Kuthalam, Kollidam, Nagapattinam, Keezhvelur, Keezhayur, Semmanarkoil, Thirumarugal, Thalainayar, and Vedaranyam.

Perambalur

The Kalaignar Housing Scheme would help bridge the rich-poor divide, said Thol.Thirumavalavan, MP, here on Thursday. Distributing identity cards to 5,652 beneficiaries under the scheme at Veppur panchayat union in the district on Thursday, Mr.Thirumavalavan said the scheme would benefit the people from Adi Dravida, backward and most backward communities.

M.Vijayakumar, Collector, said about 20,061 huts in 121 panchayats would be converted into concrete houses at Rs.155.47 crore. At Veppur Union, 5,652 houses would be built at Rs.43.80 crore. Mr.Thirumavalavan distributed identity cards to 997 beneficiaries at Aduthurai, 1,058 at Nannai, 858 at Vayalpadi, 1,021 at Thungapuram, 781 at Keezha Puliyur and 937 at Kunnam villages.

District Revenue Officer S.Palanisamy participated.

Pudukottai

Minister for Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare A. Tamilarasi gave away identity cards under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme to 11,967 hut dwellers in the district. The Minister handed over keys of houses constructed under the scheme to 13 beneficiaries of Ponnamaravathy block.

Ms. Tamilarasi said this was the second phase of distribution. On Wednesday, 14,607 persons were issued cards. G.S. Ramadasu, District Revenue Officer and Rama Subburam, MLA, spoke.
