The State government is according priority to both development and welfare for ensuring all round improvement. Infrastructure development in rural areas leads to betterment of villages in a structured manner and hence the thrust on rural development, said Transport Minister V. Senthil Balaji at a series of programmes organised here on Saturday.
Pointing out that the present dispensation was working out schemes based on the requirements of the people Mr. Balaji said development was getting due importance even as the government never lost sight of welfare.
While the under privileged required welfare for uplift, development must be carried on to bolster the economies of all sections of society and hence basic infrastructure development works were getting prioritized, he added.
On Saturday the Minister participated in bhumi poojas to mark the commencement of work on constructing a Sub Registrar office in Karur Municipality at a cost of Rs.50 lakh, laying of cement concrete road at a cost of Rs.3 lakh at Othaiyur in Nerur Thenpagam panchayat, another stretch of cement concrete road at Vedichipalayam at a cost of Rs.10 lakh, laying of black topped road between Minnampalli and Vangal Kuppuchipalayam estimated to cost Rs.53.72 lakh and a mini community hall at K. Velayuthampalayam costing Rs.5 lakh. The total cost of development works for which bhumi poojas were performed on Saturday was Rs.1.23 crore.
At another function organized to mark Teachers’ Day he handed over Best Teacher awards to some teachers. He lauded the role of teachers in shaping the future of students, and urged students to understand the role of teachers in their career enhancement.
Pointing out that the government was pioneering school education by implementing innovative schemes such as the free laptop scheme to eligible students, Mr. Balaji said the slew of concessions being extended to students was meant to unburden them and their parents of the economic stress in academic pursuit.
To improve on the incomparable noon meal scheme launched by the late Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had directed officials to provide a variety of dishes to ensure the all-round growth of children.
