Collector K. S. Palanisamy inaugurated the drive by administering polio drops to a child at an urban primary health centre on East Boulevard Road. Corporation Commissioner cum Special Officer N. Ravichandran and officials of health department took part in the programme.
Mr. Palanisamy said that the drive would cover 2.70 lakh children in the district. A total of 1,692 centres had been established to administer polio drops to children below five years of age. Of them 1,412 centres were functioning in rural areas. Special steps were taken to cover children at bus stands and railway stations in the district.
The health workers would also visit each and every house to administer polio drops to left out children. The drive would continue up to Tuesday.
The drive was inaugurated in Karur by District Revenue Officer S. Suryaprakash at a mother child healthcare centre.
More than 900 booths were set up in the district to administer polio drops.
