Gold hidden in passenger’s rectum seized

Customs officials attached to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) arrested a passenger at the international airport here on Sunday for smuggling one kilogram of gold.

The valuables were seized, and the accused Shegu Abu Bucker of Thiruvadanai in Ramanathapuram district was produced before a judicial magistrate court here. AIU officials detected the crime while profiling Abu Bucker after he arrived here by an Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur in the late hours of Saturday, airport sources said. The accused had concealed four gold pieces in two packets in his rectum. In another incident, AIU officials seized four gold biscuits weighing 400 grams from an air passenger on Sunday. The passenger, Manikandan of Salem district, arrived here from Singapore by an Air India Express flight. The officials found the gold biscuits stuck in the sole of the passenger.
