Gold biscuits weighing 487 grams seized

Officials of Customs Air Intelligence Unit seized gold biscuits totally weighing 487 grams valued at Rs. 14.50 lakh from three international passengers at Tiruchi airport on Friday night.

In the first instance, one gold biscuit weighing about 100 grams found concealed in an emergency lamp was recovered from Lakshmanan from Melur, who arrived here from Singapore by a Tiger Airways flight.

An unidentified person is said to have given the lamp to Lakshmanan in Singapore and requested him to hand it over to a contact at Tiruchi airport.

Smuggling bid

Later, gold biscuits attempted to be smuggled by two passengers - Karuppiah from Tiruchi and Sultan from Thondi - who arrived here from Kuala Lumpur by an Air India Express flight were seized.

Concealed in rectum Both had concealed the biscuits in their rectum.

While a gold biscuit weighing 200 grams was recovered from Karuppiah, another gold biscuit weighing 185 grams was recovered from Sultan.

Customs officials were conducting investigations.
