Gold biscuits seized

Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized gold biscuits from a passenger at the airport here on Thursday. Following information that a passenger from Kuala Lumpur would arrive by Malindo flight OD 223 with gold, they mounted surveillance at the airport.

The suspect passenger who arrived by the flight was identified as Shahul Hameed Abbas Jabbar of Thondi in Ramanathapuram district. A press release said Shahul Hameed initially denied possessing any gold. But a thorough search of his baggage led to the seizure 12 foreign marked gold biscuits, each weighing 100 grams, worth Rs. 36.47 lakhs.
