Gold biscuits recovered from Tiruchi airport

Six gold biscuits and gold jewels, totally weighing about 866 grams, were recovered from a toilet at the arrival hall of the Tiruchirapalli International Airport by officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit on Saturday night.

According to sources, the officials had mounted vigil acting on information that gold was being smuggled in from Singapore.

An inspectionat the toilet led to the recovery of six unclaimed packets at the toilet cistern. The packets, wrapped in polythene sheets, were found to contain the six gold biscuits, each weighing 100 grams, and gold jewels weighing 266 grams.

The seized gold was valued at Rs.25 lakhs.

In another incident, two gold biscuits were seized from a passenger, Shanmugam of Thanjavur, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur.

The passenger was found to be carrying the gold biscuits, each weighing 100 grams, in his trouser pockets but not declared them.
