Garbage dump along Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway poses risk to motorists

‘The stretch had become accident prone in the past few months’

Dumping of garbage and debris along the Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway has been posing a danger to the motorists.

Trucks dump debris, waste plastics and even garbage off the national highwayFor example, garbage is being dumped near the road over bridge about 2-k.m. from the Palpannai junction. Industrial wasteand large volume of construction debris have piled up posing risk to road users.

The stretch had become accident prone in the past few months, says local residents. As the vehicles descend the bridge, they pick up speed and sometime end up in accident. The highway was laid under the Build Operate and Transfer system, involving private concessionaire.

Sources say that the NHAI had already taken due notice of the problem and has taken up the issue with the concessionaire.

NHAI sources say that poor lighting makes it an ideal spot for miscreants to dump garbage and construction debris.
