Four arrested for possession of ganja

A special team of the City Police arrested four persons including a 15-year-old boy on the charge of possessing ‘ganja’ meant for illegal sale here.

Acting on information that ‘ganja’ was being sold in areas falling under the Cantonment police station limits, a special team was formed on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police Arun.

While mounting surveillance, the team nabbed four persons – A. Sellappan (38), R. Kumar (15), R. Sakthivel (29) and S. Bhagyaraj (27) who were found selling ‘ganja’ at different places, a police press release said.

A little over 5.75 kilograms of ‘ganja’ was seized from the possession of the four accused besides cash amounting to Rs. 4,000 and two-wheelers.

The accused confessed to have sold ‘ganja’ several times in the past. The Cantonment Police registered a case against the accused and got them remanded to judicial custody, the release further said.
