Election officials are investigating a complaint regarding huge bank transactions that had allegedly taken place between the Indiya Jananayaga Katchi candidate for the Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency and a private rice mill owner in Tiruchi district. The rice mill at Manikandam was sealed on Wednesday.
The bank transactions were said to have taken place over three or four days recently. Huge amount of money was allegedly transferred from the account of Parivendar Pachamuthu, the IJK candidate in Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency, and the rice mill owner.
Jayashree Muralidharan, District collector and Returning Officer, Tiruchi Lok Sabha constituency, told presspersons here on Thursday that complaints in this regard were received by Observers of both Tiruchi and Perambalur constituencies. Officials in both the districts were collecting details. As the election code of conduct was in force, the district authorities had to be informed about bank transactions above Rs.1 lakh. Officials have to inform the Income Tax Department if the transactions were above Rs. 10 lakh. In this case, the information was not given to the district authorities about the transaction.
Preliminary investigations revealed that transactions to the tune of Rs. 4.60 crore had taken place. However, the investigations were continuing, she said.
