Full moon days at villages in Tiruchi district will bear a special significance with CHEERS, the district arm of the National Child Labour Project (NCLP), making the most of those evenings to spread the word on child labour eradication.
In the last week, under the direction of the Collector, CHEERS hosted awareness campaigns at Vairampatti village in Vaiyampatti panchayat union and Perumal malai Adivaram in Thuraiyur panchayat union. Cultural programmes, including dance, song and street theatre were incorporated to deliver the message to the audience assembled near the child labour special schools in the villages. CHEERS project director Pearline administered the pledge supporting child labour eradication to panchayat representatives and ward members. The cultural programmes were presented by Thai Kalvi cultural troupe. Posters and hand bills were circulated, and put up on shops and public places in the villages.
At Vairampatti, S.Rani Shanmugavel, panchayat president, and headmaster of panchayat union middle school S. Jesuraj spoke. Kundrupatti panchyat president Selvakumar addressed the audience at Perumal malai Adivaram where children from Narikuravar colony special school participated.
