Four persons including three women were killed and 34 others injured in a road accident involving a tourist bus and a lorry on the Tiruchi–Dindigul national highway at Manickampillaichathram near Manapparai in the early hours on Friday.
The deceased were identified as M. Nallathangal (70), L. Usha (35), K. Jaya (55) – all bus passengers - and Elumalai (26), the lorry driver. Nallathangal and Usha hailed from Chinnalapatti in Dindigul district, while Jaya was from Kariyapatti in Virudhunagar district.
Police sources said a group of people were proceeding to Tirupati from Chinnalapatti in the tourist bus which collided head-on with the cement mixing lorry killing four persons on the spot. The injured bus passengers were taken for medical treatment to Dindigul. The Manapparai Police have registered a case, the police said.
