The Association of Managements of Hindu Educational Institutions has urged the State government to sanction permission for introducing English medium sections in class I and VI in all aided management schools.
A resolution adopted at the State executive meeting of the association held here on Sunday referred to a serious fall in the number of students in aided schools, particularly in rural areas, following the opening up of large number of private English medium schools.
The recent move by the government to start English medium section in class I and VI in government primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools has evoked good response, hence the plead, the resolution has said.
The resolution assured that management schools would utilise the available resources and the present strength of teachers for handling the English sections without causing any extra expenditure to the government.
The permission to start English medium section, the resolution said, will facilitate the proper implementation of samacheer kalvi programme of the State government and free and compulsory education. Another resolution urged the education department to accord continuous renewal of recognition for government schools, which is currently once in three years.
Although proposals are being submitted for renewal, there was inordinate delay. The renewal certificate is sanctioned at the fag end of the third year.
The resolution urged the State government to extend the period of renewal from the present three years to five years.
Further, separate recognitions were being issued for high and higher secondary sections. Instead, single recognition should be granted for the institutions run by the same management.
Another resolution referred to the teacher-student ration to be fixed at 1:30 on par with government schools. At present, it was 1:35 for standards VI to VIII and 1:40 for standards IX and X.
Yet another resolution pleaded for filling up vacant posts without prior permission from the government. Whenever vacancies arise due to death, resignation and retirement, school managements appoint teaching and non-teaching staff for the smooth administration of the schools. Such appointments should be ratified by the school education department.
The meeting also pleaded for restoring the quantum of aid provided for the management of schools. From 6 it has been reduced to 2 per cent.
