September 11, 2011 11:52 am | Updated 11:52 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Flying squads should maintain a strict vigil and prevent attempts to distribute cash or freebies to voters in Tiruchi West Assembly constituency, where by-election is scheduled to be held on October 13, said Collector Jayashree Muralidharan here on Saturday.

Speaking at a consultative meeting with officials to brief them on the role of the flying squads, static vigilance teams and video recording teams here, Ms.Muralidharan said the flying squads should also inspect marriage halls to prevent feasts and carry out vehicle checks to prevent surreptitious transport of cash, liquor or arms. All political rallies, public meetings, banners and posters should be video recorded.

Complaints received from the public should be recorded in separate registers and action should be initiated, she said and appealed to the officers to function in an impartial manner.

District Revenue Officer P.Manickam and other officials attended the meeting.
