Flood alert in Tiruchi, Karur districts

August 04, 2013 01:11 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 12:17 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The district administration has issued flood warning in the Cauvery and has cautioned the people living all along the banks of the river and in low-lying areas abetting the river to move to places of safety with immediate effect.

The flood alert is following the heavy flow of water into the Mettur dam and the decision of the Public Works Department to step up the release of water from the dam into the Cauvery.

In a statement here on late Saturday evening, District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan urged the people not to take bath or wash clothes in the river and attempt to cross the same by any means. The Revenue, the police, the Public Works Department, and the Fire and Rescue Service personnel have been put on high alert in the whole district to prevent any eventuality in case of floods. The revenue officials at night alerted the people in the villages on the banks of the river through tom- tom, the statement added.
