The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, has implemented flexible curriculum from last year as part of academic reforms in line with the world’s top universities.
The senate of the institute had endorsed the introduction of the flexible curriculum, minor specialisations, flipped classrooms based on course plans and new evaluation models.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, NIT-Tiruchi Director (in charge) G. Kannabiran said the institute undertook a major peer review by bringing in experts from Indian Institutes of Technology and leading industries to reach global standards.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development had recommended the NIT Tiruchi curriculum as a model for all NITs. The National Board of Accreditation had accredited the institute’s M. Tech. programmes in Communication Systems, Materials Science and Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Management, Chemical Engineering and Power Systems, he said.
The 12{+t}{+h}convocation of the institute would be held on Saturday during which 1,648 students, including 901 undergraduates, would receive their degrees. The prestigious ‘president medal’ for overall highest CGPA would be jointly received by Guru Praanesh and Guru Raghav, who did B. Tech. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Ninety-six per cent of undergraduates and 77 per cent of postgraduates were placed during the last academic year, Dr. Kannabiran said.
