Collector T.Soundiah on Monday appreciated the officials for their efforts and exceeding the target in the Flag Day collection last year by achieving Rs.53,12,432 against the target of Rs.24.8 lakh fixed for Tiruchi district.

The Collector, who inaugurated the Flag Day collection for the current year at the Flag Day observed here by contributing some money for the noble cause, said that Rs.27.28 lakh had been fixed as Flag Day collection for the current year in Tiruchi district and wanted officials to show the same spirit and enthusiasm to exceed the target like last year.

Mr. Soundiah said that the Flag Day contributions were being utilised for the welfare of the families of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation and also for the Ex-servicemen and their families. The Collector also distributed welfare assistance of Rs.98,864 to 53 beneficiaries at the function.

Former Captain C. Vijayakumar, Assistant Director of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, explained in detail about the various assistance being provided to the Ex-Servicemen and their families under several welfare schemes. Earlier, a meeting was held to redress the grievances of the Ex-servicemen.
