Five arrested at Trichy airport for attempt to smuggle gold

Five air travellers were arrested by customs officials at the airport here on Sunday night for attempting to smuggle in gold. The total weight of the gold seized was 700 grams worth Rs. 21.50 lakh.

All the five came by an Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur. They were caught during profiling by customs officials .

While three of them concealed gold bars in their arm pit, the other two have concealed it inside a pipe, airport sources said.
