The first phase of reporting for M.Tech admission, that began on June 15, ended at National Institute of Technology–Tiruchi, on Monday.

The selected candidates could report to any of the 20 NITs taking part in the common admission process, according to the deputy centre in-charge P. Palanisamy. NIT-T is the only reporting centre in Tamil Nadu, said N. Anantharaman, centre in-charge. Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur is the coordinating NIT for this year for CCMT (Centralised Counselling for M.Tech/ M.Plan Admissions).

Single application for the 20 NITs offering more than 300 programmes with different eligibility conditions and restrictions could reduce physical, mental and financial burden on candidates.

Candidates are being admitted on the basis of their performance in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in 2011 and 2012.

The all-India exam was conducted in eight zones across the country jointly by Indian Institute of Science, Banglaore, and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board–GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development.

Those who qualify for M.Tech/M.Plan through GATE are eligible for MHRD assistantship and other government scholarships.
