The first major activity under Rastriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in Tamil Nadu took place in Tiruchi on Friday with an orientation on computer literacy for 65 District Educational Officers and 325 computer science teachers.
The objective of the day-long programme, ‘training for computer literacy and learning for resource persons’, conducted under the supervision of the Joint Director of School Education – Higher Secondary S. Karmegam, at the Seva Sangam Girls’ Higher Secondary School was to equip students of standard IX and X with basic computer literacy on usage of e-mail facility and accessing websites.
The participating computer science teachers have been vested with the responsibility of transferring the training inputs to two teachers from each school in their respective educational districts. In Tiruchi, the five-day training for school teachers from December 14 onwards will be held at the Saranathan College of Engineering in Tiruchi Educational District, at Imayam College of Arts and Science at Thuraiyur in Musiri educational district and at M.A.M. College of Engineering at Siruganur in Lalgudi educational district, the Chief Educational Officer K. Swaminathan said.
Similar to the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, the RMSA entails upgrading building facilities, infrastructure and learning resources in high schools. The Centre has allotted Rs. 151 crore for Tamil Nadu under RMSA for this year.
As many as 70 Government High Schools, 59 Government Higher Secondary Schools, two Municipal High Schools, one Corporation HSS, one Tribal Welfare HSS, four Adi Dravida Welfare High Schools, 12 Adi Dravida Welfare Higher Secondary Schools will be covered under the RMSA in Tiruchi district. The benefit of training alone will be extended to 20 Aided High Schools, and 70 Aided Higher Secondary Schools, officials said.
