About 1073 petitions have been received from youths who are first graduate students in their families seeking certificates to that effect from the district administration consequent to the government's decision to bear the tuition fees for their professional education.

The certificates have been issued to 869 applicants so far and the first batch of about 27 applicants received the certificates from Transport Minister K.N. Nehru here on Wednesday.

Mr.Nehru pointed out that the government has decided to bear the tuition fees of students without any graduates in their families for professional courses including engineering, medical, dental, veterinary, agriculture and law colleges, irrespective of their castes and family income. Such students who get admissions through the government's single window admission system would be eligible for availing the scheme.

Collector T. Soundiah, who was also present, said that students who do not have any graduates in their families could approach the respective tahsildhars to obtain the certificates.

Corporation Commissioner T.T. Balsamy and other officials were present.
