First aid boxes were given to autorickshaw drivers by the city police here on Thursday as part of awareness campaign conducted by the Prohibition and Enforcement Wing for eradication of illicit arrack.

Commissioner of Police Sanjay Mathur handed over first aid boxes to a total of 100 drivers at a function organised in the city.

He said the campaign was organised in four phases to drive home the message of ill effects of consuming illicit arrack and socio-economic problems illicit brew could create.

Appealing to the drivers to desist from consuming alcohol, he said its consumption would lead to irreparable damage to one’s physical health besides posing problems to family members. Being eyes and ears of the police, drivers could alert the law enforcers regarding movement of suspicious persons or any illegal activity taking place in their respective areas.

Senior police personnel participated in the function. As part of the awareness campaign, street plays were organised at busy areas and essay and elocution contests were conducted for students.
