The fire station of Tiruchi International Airport has been adjudged the best in “Group B” airports in Southern Region in 2012-13.
The Tiruchi Airport was chosen for the “Best Fire Station Award” after an intense scrutiny and evaluation of various parameters and the level of preparedness of its fire services personnel. The scrutiny was conducted in 11 “group B” airports in the southern region by a committee comprising top officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Presenting the trophy to the Tiruchi Airport Fire Services team here on Saturday, D. Devaraj, Regional Executive Director, AAI, Southern Region, Chennai, said the AAI had been according great importance to passenger safety and security besides taking a host of initiatives to augment quality. The award had been given to motivate the fire services personnel of Tiruchi airport and maintain the standards, he said.
A host of aspects were checked including level of preparedness, endurance, and fitness of the personnel, their mental alertness and standards of fire fighting equipment during the selection process.
Appreciating the fire services personnel, Mr. Devaraj exhorted them to remain alert, fit, and ready to respond swiftly during emergency situations.
He said all airports had been designed as per International Civil Aviation Organisation standards.
The AAI was make every effort to meet the standards in customer satisfaction, he added.
A.P. Gajbe, General Manager (Aero), Southern Region, said 15 airports in the Southern region falling under the ‘Group B’ and ‘C’ categories were inspected and added that Tiruchi excelled in many areas, including hot fire drill.
D. Jayachandran, Assistant General Manager – Fire Services, called upon the fire services personnel to be up-to-date in handling fire-fighting equipment.
