Fire destroys eight houses in Perambalur

Raging fire destroyed eight houses at Thiru Nagar near the Government Headquarters’ Hospital on Wednesday.

Most of them were thatched houses. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

Collector Darez Ahamed, R.P. Marudharaja, Member of Parliament, and senior revenue officials visited the spot and consoled to the affected persons. The affected families were given Rs.5,000 each and 20 kg of rice.

Mr. Ahamed said new family cards were given to them immediately as their old cards were destroyed in the fire. The affected persons would be accommodated in the Municipal Community Hall and food would be served to them by the municipality.
