The Primary School Teachers Association has urged the government to fill up the vacant posts of headmaster in all panchayat union schools to ensure the future of the students.

A resolution to this effect was unanimously passed at the district general body meeting held here on Tuesday.

The district president, Muruga Baskaran, said that government should take immediate steps to fill the vacant posts of teachers and headmasters in all middle and primary schools through counselling as per the merits and norms. Moreover, the Education Department should properly maintain the service register in schools to avoid possible controversies in the future.

The members have also decided to attend an agitation to be held on September 29 in Chennai to urge the government to find out an early solution to their multi-point charter of demands.

State executive committee members Ramakrishnan and Brabhakaran and district secretary Lakshmi Narayanan took part.
