International cyclist felicitated

Prestigious recognition for international cyclist C. Rajesh who is riding high on confidence came calling at the apt time.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday presented a cheque for ₹3 lakh to Rajesh in recognition of his silver-medal winning performance in the 15km scratch race in the 2015 National Games, and another valued ₹45,000 to his father-cum-coach D. Chandrasekar, at a time when the talented cyclist has set sights on winning gold at the National Track Cycling Championship and National Road Cycling Championship later this year.

“It is a great motivation and also helps me to get latest equipment for the upcoming events,” said Rajesh, a Travelling Ticket Inspector at Tiruchi Railway Junction.

Rajesh, who had participated in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, won silver meal in the 15km scratch race in the National Track Cycling Championship held in December last year.

The father-son duo was felicitated by S. Radhakrishnan, secretary, Tamil Nadu Cycling Association, here on Sunday in the presence of C. Punniyamoorthy, District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer, and P. Rathnagiri, secretary, Tiruchi District Cycling Association.
