Tributes were paid by educationists and book-lovers to the late S.R. Ranganathan, Father of Library Science, at a function organised at the District Central Library here on the occasion of his birth anniversary on Tuesday. They referred to the laws enunciated by the late Ranganathan in proper utilisation of books and maintenance of libraries.

Thangam Moorthy, president of Readers’ Forum, said but for the efforts of the late Ranganathan, the library science would not have registered any growth. The late Ranganathan’s formulae and laws on library science had been acknowledged the world over.

C. Manoharan, District Collector, who unveiled a portrait of the late Ranganathan, said that students should not be complacent with their academic achievements but update their knowledge with latest events and current affairs.

Libraries were treasures of knowledge and the books were mirrors of history, art and culture. Students should take maximum utilisation of libraries.

Seenu Chinnappa, president of Pudukottai District Chamber of Commerce, K. A. Salim, a physician, offered felicitations. M. Pazhanisamy, District Library Officer, and P. Muthu, Librarian, spoke.
