Fast by law college students enters fifth day

Even as the State government announced closure of all arts colleges following protests by the student community over the Sri Lankan issue, a group of Government Law College students continued with their fast on Saturday.

The indefinite fast resorted by a section of law college students entered the fifth day with a couple of them being admitted to the government hospital here.

Students of Government Arts College, Thuvakudi, who had been on fast for the past three days, withdrew it on Saturday. After two days of fast, students of Bharathidasan University withdrew it on Friday evening, police sources said.

A group of Naam Tamizhar Katchi cadre observed fast in Manapparai demanding that Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa be declared a war criminal.

Members of V.O.C. Peravai staged a demonstration in the city urging the Centre to support the US-draft resolution against Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
