Farmers stage walkout

A section of farmers staged a walkout from the monthly farmers’ grievances meeting, protesting the conviction and sentencing of AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa here on Tuesday.

Leading the protest was P. Ayyakannu, State vice-president, Bharathiya Kisan Sangam, who pointed out Ms. Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister got the final award of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal’s order gazetted through a long legal battle.

Mr. Ayyakannu and others members staged a brief demonstration in front of the meeting venue. Earlier, M. Abdullah of Manapparai Taluk Maanavari and Iravai Pasanatharargal Vivasayigal Sangam staged a walkout.
