The Tiruchi district unit of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, affiliated to the Communist Party of India has appealed to the district administration to take steps to open adequate number of direct purchase centres (DPCs) to procure kuruvai paddy being harvested by farmers in parts of the district.

In a representation to the Collector, Ayilai Siva.Suriyan, district secretary of the association, said kuruvai paddy cultivation was taken up in filter point areas in Lalgudi taluk such as Senkaraiyur, Ariyur, Keezha Anbil, Natarajapuram, Sathamangalam, Kattur, Poovalur, Manthurai, Idayattrumangalam and other villages. Currently the crop has come for harvest and farmers were facing difficulties in selling their produce as traders in open market were offering a very low price. He urged the district administration to open adequate number of DPCs in Lalgudi taluk immediately to procure the paddy being harvested.
