Farmers can apply for fresh loans

There will be no restriction on sanction of fresh loans for farmers whose existing cooperative crop loans have been rescheduled, said P. Seetharaman, Registrar of Cooperative Societies.

Orders had been issued for conversion of the short-term crop loans into medium-term ones as per the decision of the government.

There is no bar on farmers, whose loans have been rescheduled, from getting fresh loans. Those who have not taken loans can apply for fresh loans, he said speaking at a meeting to review the arrangements being made for samba cultivation in the district.

Mr. Seetharaman instructed Cooperative Department officials to taken into account the requirements of inputs for the samba season and make arrangements for their supply.

Presiding over the meeting, M. Rajendran, Director of Agriculture, said samba cultivation would be taken up in over 92,000 acres of land in Tiruchi district this year and the kuruvai shortfall would be made up.

He instructed officials to ensure that certified paddy seeds were available in all agricultural extension centres, private retailers and all primary agricultural cooperative societies.

The Agricultural Engineering Department should ensure adequate farm machines were made available for hire in the district. If there was any shortage of machines, they could be borrowed from non-delta districts and kept ready for farmers use.

Jayashree Muralidharan, Collector; P. Sivan Arul, Additional Registrar, Tamil Nadu State Apex Cooperative Bank; P. Gururaj Singh, Joint Director of Agriculture; and G. Rajendra Prasad, Joint Registrar of Cooperatives, attended the meeting.
