It was ‘fantastic five’ for S. Nithya Anand in swimming at the 58 th National School Games held at Pune recently. He bagged five medals, including two gold in the boys’ under-14 age category.

Anand won the 50 metres and 100 metres breaststroke events and finished third in the 200 metres breaststroke. He was also part of the relay teams that bagged silver in 4x100 metres freestyle and bronze in 4x100 metres medley relay. “I had to compete with some good swimmers in the meet and I am happy to have done well. It has given me a lot of confidence,” said Anand, a standard VIII student of Campion Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School.

Anand is trained by B. Sathish Kumar at Anna Stadium swimming pool here. “I have been coaching him for the past five years. He is a talented swimmer and hard worker. Anand has won medals in all the events he competed at the Pune meet, which is indeed commendable,” said Mr. Sathish, exuding confidence that Anand would put up a good show in the South Zone swimming championship to be held in Chennai later this month.

Collector Jayashree Muralidharan felicitated him in the presence of G. Radha, project director, District Rural Development Agency, and P. Kalaiselvan, District Sports Officer.
