Families of three workers hailing from Nagapattinam district have petitioned the district administration to take urgent steps to rescue the trio from the clutches of their Saudi employer, who was allegedly torturing them.

One of the three workers, Kalaivanan (35), had sent a recorded video message, alleging that he was confined illegally. He said two other workers Ebenezer Lucas and M. Raman, who too hailed from his native Kodaivilagam village in Tranquebar taluk , were harassed by their employer as they refused to graze goats. The video was widely shared on the social media .

They were called to Saudi Arabia by one of their relativesto work as car driver, Sundari, wife of Kalaivanan, told The Hindu over phone. However, much to their shock they were asked to graze goats.

Kalaivanan has told his family that when he protested he was locked up in a room without food after which he agreed to graze goats.

Thereafter, Kalaivanan was shifted to another place on the Kuwait Road, while the other two were lodged in a place on Riyadh Road. The food provided to them was not good and their passports were in the possession of their employer.
