106 models displayed at science exhibition
‘Current relevance’ was the watchword for some of the captivating exhibits at the science exhibition by school students at Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Puthur, on Friday.
Models focussing on energy conservation and countering dengue fever were instant hits with onlookers. For energy conservation, there were exhibits emphasising that all avenues for ocean energy must be tapped since solar energy was still not affordable. The exhibit on dengue fever sought to convey that the infecting mosquitoes could be kept at bay by applying a paste made of garlic and other extracts.
In all, 106 models were displayed by students belonging to 33 government schools and 32 aided and self-financing schools at the expo conducted at the level of Tiruchi educational district, District Educational Officer of Tiruchi educational district Pugazhendi said. Eighteen exhibits – three from each of the six categories on the central theme ‘Science and Society’–were chosen for the next round of exhibition at the level of Tiruchi revenue district. The categories were industry; transport and communication; mathematical modelling; natural resources and conservation; community health and environment; and information and education technology.
