Euphoric atmosphere hots up fest finale

It was jubilation of the highest order as the curtains came down on the second edition of the inter-school cultural carnival, ‘Young World Fest 2010.'

The three-day festival was a convergence of talents from across 11 districts (from Erode to Nagapattinam), featuring 1,200 students from around 70 schools.

The R.S.K Higher Secondary School romped home with the ‘Overall Best Performance Trophy'. While defending champions, Montfort School, Kattur, that followed close on the heels was declared the ‘Best City Team', Trinity Academy, Tiruvarur, was awarded the ‘Best Outstation team.'

Carnatic vocalist Anuradha Krishnamurthy, the star of the evening, distributed the prizes and held the audience in a trance with soulful rendition of ‘Kanavinilum unnai marava' and ‘Kurai ondrum illai'. Underlining that the journey was more important than the destination. They should cherish the joy of participation and preparation rather than the victory, she told the students.

A.V.Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL said the mega event was a platform for students to display their talents and imbibe the right spirit of competition. G. Ramakrishnan, General Manager,Outsourcing, BHEL and Rajam Krishnan, patron of ‘Arivalayam' were also present. R. Panchanadhan presented the show with panache.

The valediction was marked by Bharatanatyam performances by a quartet from ‘Salangai', and a troupe from ‘Arivalayam'; a Kathak performance on universal consciousness by students of Bala Kala Vidhanam and a western dance performance by Nithin and team .

Winners of the various events: Group Indian Folk Dance: Brindavan Vidhyalaya, Thiruvanaikovil, Santa Maria Matriculation School and Montfort School.

Group Indian Film/ Western Dance: Trinity Academy, Tiruvarur, Sacred Heart HSS and

Global Compass.

Group Indian Classical Dance: RSK HSS, SRV Matriculation HSS and Boiler Plant Girls HSS.

Elocution: Periyar Centenary Memorial HSS, Kamala Niketan Montessori School and

Brindavan Vidhyalaya,Ambikapuram.

Debate: Montfort School, RSK HSS and Kamala Niketan Montessori School.

Cartooning: Chinmaya Vidyalaya and Montfort (both second and third places)

Collage: RSK HSS, SRV Matriculation HSS and ARR Matriculation School, Melacauvery, Kumbakonam

Garland Making: Montfort School, Good Shepherd Matriculation HSS and RSK HSS

Flower Arrangement: Good Shepherd Matriculation School, RSK HSS and Brindavan Vidhyalaya,Thiruvanaikovil.

Ceramic Tile Painting: SBIOA Matriculation School, Sri Vivekananda Matriculation School, Lalgudi, and SRV Matriculation HSS.

The events were adjudged by eminent persons from various disciplines including Vrindha Ramanan, Supriya Sivakumar, Vijaya Mukundan, Mukundan, M.Navarj, Devraj, Sureshbabu, Alexander, G.R.K.Raju, S.Kannan, V.K.Bhoominathan, Rani Muralidharan, B.Mohan, Shyamala, Shantha Rengaswamy, Amul Loganathan, Rajappa, Ayyappa, Leema Rao and Elizabeth David.

The BHEL, Tiruchi, was the title sponsor of Young World Fest 2010. Punjab National Bank, SASTRA University and Anand Engineering were the associate sponsors along with The South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur. The co-sponsors were Vasan Healthcare, Ayyan Fireworks, Classic Foods, Voyager Electronics, Black Thunder Water Theme Park and KMC Speciality Hospital. Sangam Hotels was the hospitality sponsor while ARC Aqua Puraa was the water sponsor and Livia Polymer Bottles was the event sponsor for Indian classical dance.
