EPFO asks employers to get digital signature certificate

April 04, 2014 12:15 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 08:24 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Establishments covered under the Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, should mandatorily register at least one digital signature certificate of their employer or their authorised signatory with the Employees Provident Fund Organisation, G. Sivakumar, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Tiruchi, has said.

The EPFO has embarked on the next phase of e-governance initiatives to make its services available in an efficient, transparent, and reliable manner. It is necessary for establishments to furnish electronically authenticated records through the use of digital signature while submitting statutory returns, claim forms, and other information requests.

Establishments with more than 500 ECR members should comply with the requirement by April 30 and those with 101 to 500 ECR members by June 30, Mr. Sivakumar said in a release.

Mr. Sivakumar, in another release, said online e-return format had been launched and made mandatory with effect from April 1 for establishments having exemption from the provision of Employees Provident Fund Scheme. Establishments which had been granted exemption for individual employee or employees under the provisions of the EPF Scheme are required to file e-return periodically. For more details, establishments or trusts can contact the sub-regional office in Tiruchi in person or over the telephone by dialling 2700531 or 2701126.
