Collector says pure science offers exciting opportunities

Parents should encourage the spirit of inquiry in their wards and realise the field they were interested in and accordingly motivate them to chart out their career path successfully, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan said on Tuesday.

Students should not succumb to peer pressure while taking up higher education courses after their schooling and should instead join courses in which they had interest as this would enable them to excel in that discipline, Ms. Jayashree Muralidharan said speaking at the National Science Day celebrations organised jointly by the Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, Chennai, and Anna Science Centre – Planetarium here.

Pure science offered opportunities for students, she said and added that by pursuing higher degrees they could even take up teaching profession. “Pure science offers exciting options,” she said. Urging students to develop the spirit of inquiry, Ms. Jayashree advised them to be strong in basic science concepts. The Collector distributed prizes among students who won drawing, essay writing, science quiz, and elocution contests organised earlier in connection with National Science Day.
