Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi accords priority for the welfare of differently-abled in the State and introduced several schemes for them, said D.Napoleon, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, here on Wednesday.

Addressing a function after inaugurating the welfare office for the differently-abled and employment camp for the differently-abled in the private sector at the taluk office here, the Minister said the state government had been implementing all the schemes for the differently-abled and pointed out that special concessions including three per cent job opportunities in private sector were provided to them.

Mr Napoleon pointed out that private sector units including cement companies would provide employment for the differently-abed in Ariyalur district by conducting interviews and tests.

He said that as many as 160 persons got employment out of the 450 differently-abled who took part in the employment camp conducted recently in Tirunelveli

The Minister also distributed ‘Moovalur Ramamirtham' memorial marriage assistance of Rs.20,000 each to 150 beneficiaries to the tune of Rs.30 lakh. Tri-wheeler to 13 beneficiaries each costing Rs.35,000 and free bus to eight visually challenged persons provided by the Social Welfare department. Collector T.Abraham who preside over the function, explained in detail about the various welfare schemes being implemented in the district and appealed to eligible persons to avail the benefit. S.S.Sivasankar, MLA of Andimadam, Selvaraj, District differently-abled welfare officer and representatives from several private companies participated.
