The Tiruchi City Police arrested eight persons here on Thursday from whom several fake Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards were seized.

Among those arrested were two Sri Lankan Tamils Prasanth (28) and Suman (26). In addition to confiscating fake ATM cards, the police seized a couple of cars, a laptop, a swiping machine, and Rs. 1.03 lakh cash from them.

Police said a patrol team was on night rounds at Udayanpatti area near K.K. Nagar in the city when it spotted a couple of cars stationed at that place in the odd hours with a group of men assembled there.

Growing suspicious, the patrol team conducted enquiries with the group regarding their presence at that moment. As their replies were reportedly found to be inconsistent, the eight members were brought to K.K. Nagar police station.

After probe, the police recovered 65 fake ATM cards from their possession, the sources said and added that cash and a laptop were seized. The sources said the group members allegedly used to draw money using the fake ATM cards.

The K.K. Nagar (Crime) police are conducting investigation into the case.
