Youngsters play their heart out in tennis tourney

Young players displayed abundant enthusiasm during the district junior tennis tournament that concluded here on Sunday.

The tourney, organised by the Tiruchi District Tennis Association (TDTA) at Union Club, attracted over 80 entries. The tournament was conducted in the under-10 category for children, under-12, 14, 16, and 18 sections for boys, and under-12, 18 categories for girls.

A.Lakshman Raj of Bishop Heber Club and R.Navin of Sachin Tennis Academy won two titles each in the boys’ category. Lakshman Raj bagged the under-16 and under-18 title, while R.Navin clinched the under-12 and under-14 title.

Sanjay M.Kumar of Vasanth Tennis Academy won the under-10 crown.

Gunapriya and Ruth, both from Sachin Tennis Academy, bagged the girls’ under-12 and under-18 title respectively.

Speaking at the valediction, V.P.Thandapani, Corporation Commissioner, said the civic body has been taking lot of efforts to provide facilities to improve sports activities in the city.

Mr.Thandapani gave away the prizes in the presence of K.Neethi, president, TDTA, S.Viswanathan, secretary, and S.Ashok Kumar, treasurer.
