Efforts on for smooth conduct of Samayapuram car festival

The Tiruchi rural police have mobilised considerable manpower strength for the smooth conduct of Samayapuram Arulmigu Mariamman car festival on Tuesday.

Apart form the district police, manpower strength has been augmented by drawing force from neighbouring districts falling under the Tiruchi range.

A detailed security scheme has been drafted for the car festival held in the month of Chithirai which attracts devotees from various parts of the State to Samayapuram.

Personnel from the Armed Reserve and those from the Tamil Nadu Special Police have been mobilised to augment security strength for deployment in various parts of the town.

Police expect a turnout of four to five lakh devotees for the car festival.

The devotees would start coming to the temple from Monday.

Police deployed for security duty would be involved in law and order maintenance, regulation of traffic and prevention of crimes.

Separate police teams in plainclothes would be moving at various places near the temple and in the vicinity to prevent culprits from indulging in offences such as chain snatchings taking advantage of the crowd.

The temple and its vicinity have been brought under enhanced surveillance with the police installing closed circuit television units at strategic points.

Around 110 CCTV units had been installed at chosen places within the town where medical teams would be deployed at six places to attend to any emergency.

Fire fighters would be positioned at six places in the town where a fleet of ambulances would be deployed as a precautionary measure.

Police said around 1,000 police personnel would be deployed in Samayapuram for the car festival.
