Srirangam Education Society (SES) has taken up renovation work on the 100-year-old main building of The Higher Secondary School for Boys, Srirangam, and planned to celebrate centenary of the building by May 3.
The school, started under the name, “The High School, Srirangam,” was established in January, 1896, by R. Veeraraghavachariar, a visionary teacher.
Alumni initiativeThe main building of the school, housing about 20 classrooms, is to be refurbished at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh - Rs. 25 lakh for civil work and the rest for refurbishing furniture and fixtures.
Members of the 1961 SSLC batch of the school are spearheading the initiative with active participation of the managing committee, according to S. Sudharssanam, member of the education society.
The alumni and philanthropists have been requested to participate in the project with their contributions.
