Young Indians, Tiruchi Chapter and the Confederation of Indian Industry, Tiruchi Zone, organised an interactive session on “Healthy Eating and Well Being” with G. Sivaraman in the city recently.
With the message “Food is powerful — use it to your advantage,” the session put forth the importance of eating healthy and how every single aspect of life was determined by food.
Dr. Sivaraman kept the audience captivated with stories, facts, and his experiences. Throughout the session, he emphasised that every single nutrient which the body required was available in abundance in gooseberry (amla/ nellika).
“We have diseases because we eat food which might be tasty, but not suitable for our genetics,” he said.
Neglected
“Parents these days make sure that their children go to good schools and colleges and get good job. But in the process of setting up a good future for them, they neglect giving them food which is healthy so that their childhood may be good too,” he added.
The process of healthy eating starts with one question. “Is it necessary? Whenever you eat something that is deemed “unhealthy,” always ask yourself if that food is necessary,” he said urging people to opt for traditional food.
“After a child stops breastfeeding, it is absolutely not necessary that milk should be consumed every day. But women during menopause can drink a glass of milk every day.” He urged people to stay away from alcohol.
