Duo arrested for robbery

Gold jewellery over 5 sovereigns, ₹40,000 seized

A special team of the City Police arrested two persons on the charge of robbing gold jewellery and cash from a house after tying a woman in her residence recently.

The team seized stolen gold jewellery weighing a little over five sovereigns and ₹40,000 from the duo – K. Karthikeyan (27) and N. Akash alias Lenin (20). The robbery took place on the night of June 5 at the residence of P. Jasmine (24) in Melachinthamani here.

An unknown duo wearing masks entered the house, tied her up and decamped with over five sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹ 40,000 cash.

Following the offence, a special team was constituted to apprehend the culprits. A police press release said the team was carrying out vehicle checks on Karur Bypass road on Wednesday and they intercepted a duo on a motorcycle based on information. The team inquired the duo Karthikeyan and Akash who confessed to have committed the robbery, the release also added.
